Robinson began negotiating the purchase of land on Anderson Road (off Oturoa Road) in 1957. The section known as Mangorewa Kaharoa Block 9 was first registered in 1897, and had previously been owned by the Anderson family. The Robinsons purchased the 548 acres from Mohammed Firiz Khan. 160 acres was grass and the rest was bush. The story of Richard and Valerie Robinson's hard work and determination is captured in the book “Tui Ridge Farm: 1897- 1985” by Richard H. Robinson. The couple turned what was largely a block of bush into an economic dairy farm and then a farm park known as Tui Ridge Farm. In 1985, the Seventh Day Adventist Church purchased the land to establish an outdoor recreational centre, which still runs to this day.
