Authorised nameGinders, AlfredDates of existence1831-1898BiographyDr Ginders was the Government Medical Officer in Rotorua from 1885 to 1898. During his time in Rotorua, he was in charge of the hospital known as the Sanitorium. He was in the role from 1885.
When the building was destroyed by fire in 1888, Dr Ginders was instrumental in designing and overseeing the new Sanitorium, which was built in the Government Gardens behind the Malfroy Geyser, and opened in 1891. Dr Ginders was an active part of other initiatives in the town, he was one of twelve men who formed a committee to start Rotorua's first Library in 1885.
He resigned from Resident Medical Officer position in 1898 due to ill health. He died later that year, and is buried in Auckland's O'Neill's Point Cemetery.OccupationsPhysician
