Dates of existence1977-2020DescriptionQuota International was a non-profit organisation which aimed to empower women, children, the deaf and hard of hearing, and people with speech difficulties, in local communities around the world.
Quota International of Rotorua chartered on 16 July 1977, with a membership of 26. The 1980s saw a peak, with membership rising to 42. The club was governed by a president and board of directors, and was involved at district level. There were five District Governors:
-Barbara Cumming, 1981-1983.
-Anne Hawthorn, 1984-1986.
-Betty Milligan, 1986-1987.
-Judy Keaney, 1997-1999.
-Annette Cleghorn, 2006-2008.
Over the years, the club won numerous district trophies.
As a charitable organisation, the club supported various initiatives, including:
-New Zealand Quota Educational Scholarship.
-The South Pacific Area Scholarship.
-Hand to Hand world service.
-The Wanda Freyer Joiner Fund.
-We Share Foundation.
-Relief for the impacts of flood, fire and earthquakes.
The club also raised funds through various events, including antique fairs, bride-of-the-year shows and fashion shows. Many of these are recorded in scapbooks and albums donated to Rotorua Library's community archives (Ms 167).
In September 2020, the international organisation folded. Many clubs made the decision to continue operating under a new name, including Rotorua. The club updated their by-laws, had them approved by the N Z Companies Office, and now go by Quota Rotorua Incorporated.
