He was responsible for starting the Tudor Towers Cabaret and booking the bands and individual artists who performed there. He also performed with the Howard Morrison Quartet.
Tai Eru was a Bay of Plenty Regional Councillor, chairman of many Te Arawa Trusts, including Eru Nikorima Forestry and Land Trust, Hell's Gate, Kahikatea White Pine Trust, Maupirua Geothermal Hot Pools Regional Standing Committee, Mokoia Island and Taheke Inc., and more.
He was awarded an MNZM for his services to Māori in 2010.
In his spare time, he enjoyed golf.
